The Biggest Week in American Birding

A BIG birding event planned for 2011 right in the peak of spring warbler migration in the Lake Erie Marsh Region of Northwest Ohio.

This second annual bird festival: “The Biggest Week in American Birding” is hosted by Black Swamp Bird Observatory, Tropical Birding, Kaufman Field Guides, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.
This “birding festival week” will be so jam-packed with workshops, warblers, free guided activities, warblers, half day trips, keynote speakers, workshops, and more warblers that it will have to be held over 11 days, from Thursday, May 5, 2011 through Sunday, May 15, 2011.

International Migratory Bird Day

IMBD is a huge event here at the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.

This year we also have a Weeds to Wild Flowers Walk-a-thon.
The Friends of Magee Marsh, ODNR Division of Wildlife, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and Black Swamp Bird Observatory team up to make your visit to our area very memorable.


Kelleys Island Audubon Club's "Nest with the Birds"

Their annual "Nest with the Birds" festival, runs from May 19 through May 21, 2011.

KIAC's Nest with the Birds festival starts on Thursday and continues through to Saturday afternoon.

In a break from tradition, this years festival starts Thursday morning.
Guided bird walks 8.00 am and 4.00 pm, Thursday and Friday.
Program presented by H Thomas (Tom) Bartlett, 7.00 pm Thursday.
Woodcock Watch on your own at dusk.
Bird banding at Long Point with Master Bander, H. Thomas Bartlett and his assistants - Saturday 8:00 am through 2:00 pm.

Bobolink Festival at Byers Woods - June 25th

Ashland County Park District and Greater Mohican Audubon Society are teaming up to celebrate the Bobolinks at Byers Woods.
Although it kicks off with a 9:00 am bird walk, this festival is not just for the birds. There will also be plenty of displays,
vendors and native plant sales from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Kelleys Island Audubon Club's "Feathers and Foliage"

KIAC hold their Feathers and Foliage fall birding festival on the fourth Saturday in September.

This one day event revolves around bird banding at Long Point with Master Bander, H. Thomas Bartlett and his assistants.
Attendees are shown all aspects of bird banding, kids young and old have the opportunity to release a banded bird.
Banded birds are available for adoption.
Beginner bird walks are also a feature.
