Hike the Dikes
A guided marsh adventure! See areas of Magee Marsh and Ottawa Refuge that are usually closed to the public. Meet at the Bird Center at Magee Marsh at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Most walks last about 1 ½ hours. Though we have topics, we will explore whatever comes along! Earn a hiking stick for coming to 3 Hike the Dikes in a year!

Hike the dikes is a cooperative effort between ODNR-Division of Wildlife, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Black Swamp Bird Observatory

Noon - 4:00 p.m.
BACK TO THE WILD will be here with a LIVE eagle! Learn about Bald Eagles in Ohio. Travel to area nests. Kids activities and refreshments. Eagle talk at 1:00 p.m.

  Garlic Mustard Pull Party Help us reduce this noxious weed on the bird trail. Meet at the west end of the boardwalk at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided by The Friends of Magee Marsh. Please call (419) 898-0960 x 31 to register.

Saturday Morning Bird Walks Join the naturalist at the west end of the bird trail at 8:30 a.m. to discover what birds are in the area this week!

International Migratory Bird Day A fun-filled day of activities related to songbird migration. Bird banding demonstrations, wagon rides, live raptors on display, photo exhibit, carvers, food and optic tents and much, much more! Hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
     
  July 21  
Bug Fest A variety of hands-on stations will be set up to learn about the amazing world of insects. Hours are 12 - 4 p.m. Bring the whole family and wear old shoes!
     
  September 29-30  
Waterfowlers Festival

Duck calling, retriever trials, live waterfowl exhibit, wagon rides, fishing pond, and a decoy contest. Several vendors with a variety to purchase. Hours 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

     
  November 25  
Wooden Feather Day A day to vote for your favorite wooden feather. Enjoy homemade cookies fireside. Hours 12 - 4 p.m.

Lake Erie Birds Series
Have you ever wanted to learn more about birds? This series of talks and walks will help the beginner birder to identify birds of the area and their habitats.
 
Tuesdays
April 3, 10, & 24
The series will meet for three Tuesday nights. Meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Bird Center.
   
Saturdays April 7 & 21  We will also have field sessions. Meet at the west end of the boardwalk at 8:30 a.m.
   

Sunday
April 15

Other field session. Meet at the bird center at 9:00 a.m.
   

Special Shorebird Walk
Sat., August 18 Meet at the Bird Center at 8 a.m. for a special shorebird walk.

Night Hikes
A unique opportunity to explore the marsh at night. Refreshments provided too!
