Boardwalk Renovation Project
The Friends of Magee Marsh is engaged in raising funds for the renovation of the famous Magee Marsh Boardwalk. The boardwalk is located on the shore of Lake Erie in Lucas county near Oak Harbor, Ohio.
Listed as one of the top ten birding hotspots in the country, more than 80,000 people visit Magee Marsh during spring migration. This location and environs have been dubbed “The Warbler Capital of the World.” The influx of birders to the area means there are millions of dollars spent at Northwest Ohio businesses.
The Boardwalk is 25 years old and falling into disrepair. The Friends of Magee Marsh is conducting a campaign to raise $300,000 to refurbish the boardwalk. These funds will allow us to replace the decking and rails, stabilize the tower, and make other improvements to ensure the boardwalk remains safe and open to the public.
The Friends group has given $60,000 toward the renovation. Phases I, II and III are complete!
The Friends of Magee Marsh is asking for your support with this endeavor. Donation envelopes and donation boxes can be found at the Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center and both ends of the Boardwalk. Additionally, donations can be made via the PayPal buttons on any page on our website or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/friendsofmageemarsh. You do not need a Paypal account.
Magee Marsh Wildlife Area is located on State Route 2, 17 miles west of Port Clinton and 25 miles east of Toledo. GPS coordinates to the boardwalk are 41.63N and 83.19W.
